Feminist leader Betty Friedan leads women in support of the ERA, 1971.
Rediscovered: Theodora Keogh
The story of a rich New York housewife who falls in love with a famous sculptor (named Zanic, no less), "The Fascinator" could almost be a companion piece to "The Feminine Mystique," so striking is the similarity between Ellen, the protagonist, and the middle class housewives consumed by their ennui that Betty Friedan decried. Yet it wouldn’t be a Keogh book if there weren’t disturbing, predatory elements to Zanic that sometimes push the book into pulp territory.

Suffragetts: In the United States, women over 21 were first allowed to vote in Wyoming from 1869 and in Utah from 1870, and with the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment the suffrage was extended to women across the United States in time for the 1920 presidential election.

How many suffragettes were there? There were thousands of suffragettes spread across the world. In Pennsylvania alone there were around five thousand, while in other parts of the world there were well over that. The amount of supporters of the Women's Suffrage movement was large.

Still pissy that Gloria Steinem and Betty Friedan were credited with "starting modern feminism" in my APUSH book lol

Another amazing using Betty Friedan’s “The Feminine Mystique.” Kai rocked this poem. I love the detail, theme, and the powerful choice of words that capture the sense of hopelessness that many women felt in the 1950’s. 💜💚💜💚💜💚💜💚💜💚💜💚
