Liz was a dynamo. After her stint in the White House, she became a VP at Hill & Knowlton in Washington D.C. When she returned to Austin, Liz published several books, and was a tireless mentor to young women. Earlier in her life, she was at the forefront of second wave feminism—a worldwide movement— with friends like Betty Friedan, Gloria Steinem, Betty Ford, Barbara Jordan and so many others. She fought hard for the #EqualRightsAmendment. #AlphaPhi #IThinkSheVoted

13 Important Things Famous Women Have Said About Sex
13 Important Things Women Have Said About Sex -- "There is unbelievable power in ownership, and women should own their sexuality. There is a double standard when it comes to sexuality that still persists. Men are free and women are not. That is crazy. The old lessons of submissiveness and fragility made us victims. Women are so much more than that. You can be a businesswoman, a mother, an artist, and a feminist — whatever you want to be — and still be a sexual being. It’s not mutually exclusive.

Chatelaine for the Canadian Woman July 1958 <<=>> Chatelaine isn’t a fashion magazine – it is a women’s magazine. Most of the articles in the issue were evocative of Betty Friedan’s The Feminine Mystique – much discussion of marriage, motherhood and mental health, feathering the nest, and of course many recipes using time-saving preparations (i.e. boatloads of Jello) and devices.

12 iconic women ... how many can you recognize? I only mixed up Betty Friedan and Bella Abzug. Should have remembered Bella wore hats. Didn't recognize young Ruth Ginsberg. LOVED seeing artist Louise Nevelson.

Shamefully, all I knew about Betty Friedan was her book Feminine Mystique (I’m kind of a young’n) without any of her back story. She’s played by Tracey Ullman. I was so curious after watching episodes 4/5, I spent a few hours on the Internet getting to know her.

Must be the drms are brainwashing young women. Being duped again. In college I attended a lecture by Betty Friedan. The feminine mystique really changed many of our lives. We all did well as professional women work hard you do well👍🏻

Betty Friedan to Beyoncé: Today’s young women & men embrace on their own terms: via

I worry abt our young women, too. I’m old enough to remember Betty Friedan’s lecture at when I was a junior. We’ve taken such strides since that year, but a bunch of old men (and some women - even worse) want to set us back.

The Time Team has to keep Betty Friedan, future author of The Feminine Mystique (which inspired the second wave feminist movement in the 60s), alive and on her path as a young woman in Peoria.

OaktownCogPsy 21 Apr 2018
Let's not sugarcoat that era. This article articulates what the cultural expectations for the young women of that era: I believe that Betty Friedan and the pill were the best things that ever happened to American women.

NKenner3 23 Jan 2019
True. And, I want to thank you for not calling me an old bitty. I get this from young folks when I express my point of view. I read Betty Friedan and Gloria Steinems books on female liberation. I just think the younger generation puts too much emphasis on sexual expression.

As a 49yo feminist taught in a Woman's Stud Dept in the late 80's-early 90's at a bad a$$ Univ by 2ndWave Feminists, I hear you. I literally got to hang w/Betty Friedan one night. But there are awesome young feminists now too. Push back w/every generation.

WAGV Apr 21
We are loving it so far. Betty Friedan co-founded our organization in 1993 after she became pissed off that the NRA was targeting women for gun sales. Thanks for helping to bring this story to a new generation of young women.

llmk1253 1 Oct 2016
we just don't want young women to forget the fight of the suffragettes,SB Anthony, Shirley Chisholm, Betty Friedan, Gloria Steinem>

Don Draper never existed. Neither did his kids. It is funny that middle-aged people use the one-dimensional show on AMC to try to educate young people on topics ranging from the atom bomb to Dr. King’s murder to pollution to Betty Friedan’s impact on Secretaries’ Day. Tee hee!

So Sanders isn't gorgeous, but is still pretty young. The evil within hasn't had a chance to burn from her soul outward to the surface and ravage her appearance. In time, she'll look like Joy Behar or Betty Friedan. 🤢

ElfyGanas 20 Dec 2017
I understand. But what I was referring to was the militant feminists like Gloria Steinem, & Betty Friedan. You may be too young, but look up what they stood for during their militant days.

nnHirsch 28 Jun 2015
the only one i could think of was eleanor roosevelt but she was pretty when she was young. also betty friedan but no1 likes her

Jennife10651535 31 Jul 2019
No, he came of age in the 50s, when women's rights were not a thing( when did Betty Friedan first publish?). We married very young. They didn't really take off until the 70s, and it's nigh impossible to get a man of that age to change his ways

Kathryn26474021 7 Mar 2017
young women should read books like The 2nd Sex, Simone Dr Beauvoir, The Femine Mystic, Betty Friedan educate ourselves4uspeak
